Fashion Feud finals and May Day recap

You are zee vinner Laura Fulk! Fulk wins Fashion Feud. (Psst she has a twin sister!) I recap MayDay, the celebs that came, and provide colorful commentary to parade photos.

The Scion promoter (from New York) asked the audience who they think should win. Jenny Carle got a big rah-rah while Laura Fulk garnered a ear-blaring cheer. Fulk won the $1,000 in the Fashion Feud Finals (sponsored by Cliche). Carle put up a decent fight but took it safe with an elegant blue evening dress while Fulk blasted out her wrapping and folding powers with an insane fabric pattern.

Of course, the crowd may have been biased toward her to begin with. Fulk hosted her own “Suffocate” Fashion Show at The Lab in Northside two weeks ago to much acclaim (Cake in 15 / Metro Mag / Midwasteland). This girl has appeared nearly every year at Voltage since I’ve known and now she’s finally branched on her own. Kudos.

Btw I introduced myself to the lovely Fulk family. Her mom caught wind I was a “gossip” blog and noted Laura has a twin sister. Deviousness! I can see why the (evil) twin sister chose a platinum blond dye-job in order to distinguish herself. Why all day people would be coming up to her for autographs and that fashion paparazzi is mean business.

Meanwhile we neglected to write a MayDay story. I hope all of you enjoyed my real-time Twittering. This year’s theme resonated around greed and values… which is pretty much like any other year. Except this year it personally hurts for everyone! As always most of the floats depicting ills–this time being credit card pyramids and dung beetles–was wonderfully lit ablaze during the HOBT “ceremony” at Powderhorn.

The most memorable instance was the cowbell boy in red, nearly every 20-something to have seen SNL’s Will Farrell during that memorable year was screaming for “MORE COWBELL!” Smart move parade organizers.

We caught a glimpse of Elana Wolowitz, owner of Common Roots Cafe, the fair-trade, organic, closed-loop recycling and stupendously environmental and delicious place to eat (see Jan. story in MinnPost which awkwardly focused on bagels). And we saw none other than soon to be default-re-elected R. T. Rybak in stunning, stunning… I was stunned. It’s odd to see a politician come out to a parade these days and even more so since there is no candidate right now that can formidably oppose his run. Sadly HOBT put him dead last in the parade. We love Rybak, really.
